Change Exch2010 OWA site from https://mail.domain.com/owa to https://mail.domain.com/anythingiwant ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've read the article at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb430760(v=exchg.141).aspxon "Rename an Outlook Web App Web Site". That did not allow me to change the urlaccess from "/owa"to "/anythingiwant". It only removed OWA, then re-added it.

I even added a parameter at the end of the shell command "New-OwaVirtualDirectory" called "ExternalUrl ", but that still created only an "owa" virtual directory in IIS.

Should be simple I hope! Lots of different answers, but I can't find this particular answer. Can anyone please help?

  • virtual directories are hardcoded - you can change web site name, but not specific urls - EWS, owa, ecp, OAB, etc. must be available

  • Ok, that stinks.

So is there a way to change the names of the aspx files, like logon.aspx? I'd like to remove default.aspx so users will need to hard-code the URL. Right now it's https://mail.domain.com/owa/auth/logon.aspx and if it could be https://mail.domain.com/owa/auth/myownname.aspx that would be great.

  • The only thing you can really do is to create your own vdir with a redirect page to /owa .  Your users can then type your custom url, but they will ultimately be redirected to /owa. As you've discovered, the actual owa vdir can only be called owa.
