Space management in azure RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am working with a project which handles with space management in azure environment (ie. uploading and downloading files to and from azure).

I would like to know how to manage the cost of usage space?

ie. I am having a 5GB space in azure. I am working in that space. How to calculate the cost for the space? Should it requires code wise manipulation of cost, or azure itself will take care of cost for used space?

If i have to manage the cost manipulation, how could i do this? please provide me some code wise example.

please let me know if my query doesnot reach you properly.

    Thanks in advance,

    Sujith.S

  • Sujith,

if i understand you right you are using Azure for storage of your files? To calculate or predict the cost you need to know how much data (in GB's) you will store and how much you will upload and or download and the amount of transactions you perform.

Uploading a GB to Azure will cost you $0,10 and downloading a GB will cost you $0,15.

Keeping data on Azure storage will cost you $0,15 per GB per month. E.g. if you storage 60GB just for one day you will pay $0,30.

Storage transactions will costs you $0,01 per 10k transactions.

If you want to use CDN to increase performance and lower latency (bring data closer to your customers) you will pay an additonal fee.

Prices above are based on normal fee rates, there are alot of special introductionaries and other offerings.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Sujith.S,

We can find the Windows Azure Pricing in http://www.microsoft.com/windowsazure/pricing/. Also we can find a pricing calculator in http://www.microsoft.com/windowsazure/pricing-calculator/.

    > How to calculate the cost for the space? Should it requires code wise manipulation of cost, or azure itself will take care of cost for used space?

Azure itselft will take care of cost of used space. As for now, there is no API for us to get the usage information programmatically. Please vote this feature in http://www.mygreatwindowsazureidea.com/forums/34192-windows-azure-feature-voting/suggestions/1143971-billing-usage-api?ref=title.

    Thanks,
