Known Issue: Visual Studio 2015 Express for Windows 10 Cannot Create New Projects RRS feed

  • Question

  • If you installed Visual Studio 2015 Express For Windows 10 after Update 1 was available (November 30), you may be unable to create a new project or open existing projects. During project creation you will receive an error that .NET Core version 5.0 is not installed.

We recommend that you install and use Visual Studio 2015 Community rather than Express for Windows 10 if you are using Visual Studio as an individual, as part of a non-enterprise organization of five people or fewer, for academic research or classroom learning, or to contribute to an open source project. Click here to install Visual Studio 2015 Community, or see VisualStudio.com for more information.

For enterprise users of Visual Studio 2015 Express for Windows, to work around this issue:

    1. Download and install KB3073097.
    2. Restart Visual Studio after installing this fix.
This issue will be fixed in a future release of Visual Studio 2015 Express For Windows 10.
