How to Get Favicon.ico to Display on Tab in Edge RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a ColdFusion website.  I have created a favicon.ico using an online favicon generator.  The icon does not show up on the page tab in Edge. I am using Edge version 83.0.478.45 official build 64-bit (latest version) with Windows 10 Home, OS Build 18363.900 (latest update).

    Favicons for other sites (e.g. weather.com, etc.) DO show up fine in Edge.

    I have tried placing each of the following lines (NOT at the same time) inside my <head></head> tags, to no avail.  I have also tried favicon.ico file sizes 16x16 and 32x32, with no luck.

    <link href="favicon.ico" rel="icon" type="image/x-icon" />
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" />

    Is there some special code required to have favicons display on tabs in Edge?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

  • To check the icon, try entering an address like this (in browser): “http://.../favicon.icon”. An example that works: “https://weather.com/favicon.ico”.

    If the icon is not shown, then maybe the address should include some path: “http://.../some/path/favicon.icon”.

    After you clarify the correct URL, try this element:

       <link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" href="/favicon.ico" />

    or

       <link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" href="/some/path/favicon.ico" />
