Issue while adding an assembly reference from GAC into VS project RRS feed

  • Question

  • HI,

I am working on a ASP.Net web project and using Visual Studio 2008 on Win Srever 2008 R2 64 bit Enterprise machine. When trying to add assembly refrerence from gac, I got a message "../gac_msil/../xxx.dll. The filrname is not valid". I want to add a reference of some dependent assemblies from gac into my project. When I add reference of same assembly from another location, it's added.

    Can anybody help?

  • Hi Prasad Cybage,

In Visual Studio 2008, you cannot add assembly reference from gac directly.

To resolve the problem .you can copy the dll out of GAC then add reference.

If you still have any questions or concerns about this issue, please feel free to let me know.

  • Hi Prasad,

The VSX forum is about developing the extension for Visual Stuio. Your question is about adding reference from GAC, I'm moving this thread to Common Language Runtime forum for better support.

    Regards,
