Samsung Q1 UMPC webcams RRS feed

  • Question

  • some versions of Samsung Q1U (UMPC) have 2 web cams
(1 megapixel facing backwards and .3 megapixel facing forwards).

using DirectShow, there is only 1 video capture device that shows up.
i can use that filter to get access to the rear camera, but there is no
documentation on how to get access to the front camera.
since there is only 1 filter, there is probably a COM interface that i could
    create to switch active cameras.
but i need to know what that interface is ...

the problem is ... Samsung doesnt seem to have any developer support.
so i'm stuck ... and have no clue what to do next?

  • Did you ever get an answer o how to connect to the Cam? I would like to use the camera to take "snap shots" and upload them into an app I'm dev'ing, but can't seem to get it to work. Thanks!

  • Hi KC.

I have been asking around here, but the only answer I get is that it is a device-specific issue. I am still nosing around, though.

  • developers are going to start using cameras more for image recognition (e.g. Bill Gates CES keynote), so ultimately there needs to be a common API, so this moves out of being device specific.

  • Thanks, casey.

I will make sure that this request makes its way to the Platform development team. I agree that there's a need.
