Message classes - IPM.* vs IPF.*? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to create a folder through EWS on an Exchange mailbox that uses a custom message class (so that it picks up my custom form).

    When I tried to run this code, it failed:

    Folder

    folder = new Folder(_service);

    folder.DisplayName =

    "Custom Folder";

    folder.FolderClass =

    "IPM.Contact.CMContact";

    folder.Save(WellKnownFolderName.Contacts);

    Then I found this post: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd633637(v=exchg.80).aspx

    It uses a FolderClass of "IPF.*" and that code works...

    What's the difference between using IPM.* and IPF.*?  Because all of the contacts I've been creating have used a message class of IPM.Contact.CMContact and it's worked just fine, but creating a folder with IPM.Contact.CMContact doesn't work...

  • Basically, what I'd like to do is, when a user creates a new contact in this folder manually, I want it to pick up my custom form rather than the default form.  Is this the proper way to do this?
