Today, we released Visual Studio 15.3 Preview 5/6/7 and if this is your first time install the Visual Studio 2017 Preview and attempting to use the Xamarin Live Player you may be wondering where is it even after you have followed the simple install directions: https://developer.xamarin.com/guides/cross-platform/live/install/

Update is now live. You will now need to turn it on in the tools->options :)

    It's 12:17 Eastern on 7/27/2017 and I've installed Preview 6.

Live Player is nowhere to be found and there are no updates.

Does Preview 6 have bugs as well?

I'm experiencing the same issue as identified by BillyMartin - i.e. that I installed Preview 6 (and the Xamarin Updater) but no updates are displayed in Tools->'Extensions and Updates...'->Updates->'Xamarin Preview'. Therefore "Live Player" device is not available for pairing/selection. Is it possible that the Tools->Environment->'Extensions and Updates'->'Additional Extension Galleries'->'Xamarin Preview' URL (xvs://preview/) is incorrect?

Can't get any of the five Xamarin updates to install. I click on update for each one and they say they are scheduled, but when I close Visual Studio 2017 Preview, nothing happens. Then when I go back in, they are still there, but not scheduled.

I even uninstalled and reinstalled updater, but it didn't help.

Visual Studio 2017 updates fine though.

You will still need to follow the installation instructions at: https://developer.xamarin.com/guides/cross-platform/live/install/

This will guide you through the additional installation steps.

I recommend that you join the Live Player Alpha program to get the latest version of the app: https://aka.ms/liveplayeralpha

I recommend also reading through the limitations: https://developer.xamarin.com/guides/cross-platform/live/limitations/

    Try the samples first: https://developer.xamarin.com/samples/xamarin-live-player/all/

Finally, make sure you try the "Live Run Current View" instead of running your full application. This will just run the code needed for a single view so if you have complex startup code that can't be interpreted then it will have a higher success. Realize that we aren't compiling your application so there are some things that just can't be interpreted.

@Aseemuddin I'm able to run with Xamarin Forms using a Shared Project. I was also able to run the ColorControl demo. I'm using an IPad.

Problems found: - With PCL projects I get a Foundation.ModelNotimplementedException. - When I try to use syncfusion references I get "Failed to resolve assembly " just like reported here: https://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/96545/xamarin-live-player-failed-to-resolve-assembly#latest

@starkov79 I'm afraid that I only followed the instructions here https://developer.xamarin.com/guides/cross-platform/live/install/ . Not sure if it helps but my IPad was clean is running on the same wifi network as my desktop. Finally I'm using VS 2017 Preview 15.3 6 .

The PCL issue looks like a known bug strangely marked as Resolved: https://bugzilla.xamarin.com/show_bug.cgi?id=56259 .

  • User339054 posted

Yes. It's PCL and iOS that I'm having problems with.

    Foundation.ModelNotimplementedException

I see it is a known bug. Don't know why Xamarin thinks it's resolved. Do they not get the same error? Maybe their configuration is different.

I just checked. I have no problems at all with Blank App with Shared Project. Visual Studio crashes if I try to do Master detail and Shared Project. If it's not possible to combine them, then they should be disabled so that we can't choose them together.

James Montemagno [MSFT] 2017-05-30 18:07:53 UTC The current iOS build supported Shared projects, and the next version has the fix for PCL projects.

When will this be implemented, as I am still getting visualization errors on PCL projects and also on shared projects when using internet or GPS functions.

@BillyMartin that build has been available for several months via the Alpha program and I know that I sent out invites to you already so check your emails you registered with or email me. Also, it is highly possible that the plugin is not supported as not all functionality like that is. So while some plugins work it does not mean every package out there will. There are just some restrictions when interpreting code.

@haluu it is still only available in the preview channel of VS, not stable. So currently Visual Studio 2017 version 15.3 Preview 7.1+

Hi James, thanks for the opportunity to help test this. I got the TestFlight email, installed the app on my iphone, redeemed the code, so that is done.

In VS2017 CE (d/l & setup yesterday). I have latest Xam Updater; I installed it and ran all updates.

After doing all the setup steps, I still have no way to "turn on" Live Player in VS2017, so am unable to move past that initial step in the TestFlight wizard. ["other" selection not in Options-->Xamarin]

Am I missing something, or is the current build disabled for dvmt....

    thanks!

Any luck with VS 2017 15.4?

I have been trying the whole day, but all I get is this errors:

he following errors were encountered when building and running your app: • MainActivity.cs: The type 'ContextCompat' exists in both 'Xamarin.Android.Support.Compat, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' and 'Xamarin.Android.Support.v4, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' • PushHandlerService.cs: 'Resource.Drawable' does not contain a definition for 'icon' • PushHandlerService.cs: Argument 2: cannot convert from 'string' to 'Java. Lang.lCharSequence' • PushHandlerService.cs: 'Resource.Drawable' does not contain a definition for 'icon' • PushHandlerService.cs: Argument 2: cannot convert from 'string' to 'Java. Lang.lCharSequence'

I found where they were happening and commented all the code that triggers them (Code was needed, but not critical for the app to run).

Now when I run they don't happen, the phone shows a little notification in the bottom which says: "Virtualisation error Cannot find a default constructor for 'XamarinAp...' "

The Phone I am using is a Samsung S7 Edge with Android 7.0.

    Any ideas?
