Get User mailbox location (on premise/online) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    We have hybrid Exchange server environment where mailboxes for the users are setup on-premise as well as online Exchange.

    There is a need to find out whether a particular user's mailbox is available on-premise or online so that we could the corresponding EWS URL for each mailbox. Is there a way to find out whether user's mailbox is setup on-premise or online from Active directory settings for the user. Is there is any other way to find out user's mailbox location.

    Thanks,

    Raghav

  • Every user migrated to Exchange Online from on-premise an "RemoteUserMailbox" in Exchange On-Premise, so you could find all online users using the following command:

    Get-Recipient -Filter {RecipientTypeDetails -eq "RemoteUserMailbox" }

    The on-premise users will be showing as UserMailbox (not including SharedMailbox, Rooms, Contacts):

    Get-Recipient -Filter {RecipientTypeDetails -eq "UserMailbox" }
