Silverlight and Geography type, easy way ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm trying to import data from a sql server 2008 to silverlight. I use sql geography type.

Is there any easy way to load data directly to the map ?

    Thanks a lot.

  • Unfortunately, the answer is "no" - there's no easy built-in way to import geography data into Silverlight.

The SqlServer.Types.dll library that contains the SqlGeography datatype is not Silverlight-compatible, so you'll have to retrieve the data from SQL Server as either WKT, WKB, or GML, and then manually process that into shapes on the map.

You can of course use third-party tools to do some of the work for you, such as http://dataconnector.codeplex.com/
