visual c++ 6 crashes unexpectedly RRS feed

  • Question

  • my visual c++ 6 crashes unexpectedly when I work on a specific file in the IDE. I used debugDiag to find what causes this crash to happen and the result of analysis of the .dmp file generated by debugDiag was as follow:

In MSDEV__PID__3248__Date__08_20_2009__Time_02_07_48PM__187__Second_Chance_Exception_C0000005.dmp the assembly instruction at FEACP!SignatureMatch+35fe4 in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\Common\MSDev98\Bin\FEACP.DLL from Microsoft Corporation has caused an access violation exception (0xC0000005) when trying to write to memory location 0x00040ffc on thread 0

I would like to know how to fix this problem.

  • The IntelliSense parser crashed.  Not uncommon in VC6.  Delete the .ncb file.  It will make a new one, hopefully not corrupted this time.

  • Thank you, As you mention IntelliSense dll has problem and when I rename its dll (FEACP.DLL ) VC don't crash any more. I think VC don't use it now!
