Office 2016 pro, .net framework 4.5 & windows 10 Home x64 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a windows 10 64 bit machine that I am trying to install office 2016 pro 64 bit. It errors out with the following "Setup is unable to proceed due to the following error(s): This product requires Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5. Correct the issue(s) listed above and re-run the setup"

So I go and do the logical thing I find .net framework and see there is a 4.5.2 version I try to run the installer and I get the error ".Net Framework 4.5.2 or a later update is already installed on this computer."

Being who I am, I am a curious person and I find out what version of .net framework I have going to the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full and find the  registry key "Release" is the name and its a DWORD  and looking at the versions on the following "https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh925568(v=vs.110).aspx#net_b" . It looks like I am running version 4.6.1

So looking at the following "https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb822049(v=vs.110).aspx" it looks like 4.5 isn't meant for windows 10. So now I am in a quandary. I am on the latest version and I cannot install office 2016. . . . this should not be a problem. . .

any ideas on a fix or a work around for this guys?

    Thanks,

P.s. I apologize for the horrible links but Microsoft wont let me add them to the content until my account has been verified and I haven't got a verification email.

  • Hi FLC-A,

    Thank you for your post.

Firstly, about how to verify your account, please post a request in the following link:

    For this issue,

I suggest you use .NET Framework Setup Verification Tool to check if the .NET Framework is ok.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx

If you find there is anything wrong with .NET Framework, you may use Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool to do a repair,
This tool detects and tries to fix some frequently occurring issues with the setup of Microsoft .NET Framework or with updates to the Microsoft .NET Framework.

  • The above tool was used. I tried it using the gui and the cmd line interfaces(in both passive, quiet and running from) and both did not correct the issue. After the tool was run I attempted the office 2016 setup and it failed with the same initial error "Setup is unable to proceed due to the following error(s): This product requires Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5. Correct the issue(s) listed above and re-run the setup".

The following are the log files produced that are being sent off to Microsoft that cannot be fixed. I don't know if this is much help on this.

    C:\WINDOWS\windowsupdate.log
    C:\WINDOWS\logs\cbs\cbs.log
    C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Temp\FixDotNet.log
    C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Temp\NetFxSetupEvents.txt
    C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Temp\dd_NetFxRepairTool_decompression_log.txt
    C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Temp\FixDotNet_HKCR_Installer.regdump
    C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Temp\FixDotNet_HKLM_Installer.regdump

Appreciate the pointing in the activation link. Thank you,

  • Hi FLC-A,

    Sorry for my delay reply.

You can follow below steps to collect log files:
    1.       Try to go to your "%temp%" folder (Start Menu >>Run >> Type "%temp%).
    2.       Manually filter the .net framework logs from "%temp%" folder .

Please upload the file to https://onedrive.live.com/   and share the link here.

  • I have experienced the same problem.  I am trying to install Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016 on a Windows 10 Pro 64 bit machine.  When I run Setup.exe (from the installation DVD), I get the same message reported above: "Setup is unable to proceed due to the following error(s): This product requires Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5. Correct the issue(s) listed above and re-run the setup"

I ran the .NET Framework Setup Verification Tool and everything looks good for the .NetFramework 4.6.1 installation.  I also verified the registry entries as was reported above.

Do I need to get a new installation DVD?

    Thank You.
