ADO.NET: No Tables in Server Explorer RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

    I have installed Oracle10g and ODP.NET 10.

When I go into Server Explorer (Visual Studio 2008 and 2010, which I selected in the ODP.NET setup):

    • I can create a connection (either using TNSNAMES file or by putting in the full TNS details as the datasource).
    • I can click 'Test Connection', which is fine.
BUT when I open the connection in Server Explorer the server appears with all of the tabs (tables, views) etc., but these are all EMPTY.

I can also retrieve data using a dataset, but I can't use the query facility as there are no tables listed, as per the Server Explorer.

I am an abject Oracle newbie, and to be blunt I don't want to know about it. All I want is to be able to develop my .net 2 app using this library. Why, oh why, didn't Microsoft just keep the old libraries as Oracle taking over certainly seems a shambles to me!!

    Please, please can anyone help?

I'm at my wits end having spent a couple of days on this with nothing to show for it. I just want to be able to see the tables etc. in the database and create parameterized queries in datasets.

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

    Niki
