  • Question

  • Greetings!

Last night, I tried to install VS 2013 Express on my desktop computer when I received the above message 5 seconds after the initial splash screen appeared on my screen.  It would never give me a solution either, only to close the program.

Now, I also have VS 2012 Express on my computer so I figured "maybe this has something to do with it." So I go to uninstall it, I get the same message and options! O_O

This is getting really frustrating and I hope someone might be able to point me in the right direction!

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

I checked your log. I list the recent fail installation below.

    Source:MsiInstaller  Id:1013 (0x000003F5)  Time:2014.08.10 00:24:12  Type:ERROR

Strings (7):[Product: Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 Preparation -- To install this product please run Setup.exe]

2014-08-10T00:23:51]e000: MUX:  ERROR: The type initializer for 'System.Windows.Media.FontFamily' threw an exception.

Maybe it's a WPF font issue.

Please refer to the thread below:

1)Do some font clean up, remove unused fonts for you.

    2)Try restarting the following services

    • Windows Font Cache Service
    • Windows Presentation Foundation Font Cache 3.0.0.0

Let me know anything else I can help.

    Best regards,

  • Ran into this error with Visual Studio 2015 Community Edition install. I was sceptical this would help, but sure enough - after restarting Windows Font Cache Service and starting (it was set to Manual start) the Windows Presentation Foundation Font Cache, the installer runs.

    I'm running Windows 8.1 x64.

    Thank you!

  • Hi,

I'm running into the same issue with vs 2013 express.

I have tried the solution above but I still run the same error. I viewed the log and found "windows media font " but to no avail I can't get the setup to go.

    VS 2010 setup runs fine.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Steve
