Forum bugs in IE9 and IE10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I´m reporing some bugs and issues regarding this forum, social.technet.microsoft.com
I couldn´t find better place for that, so sorry if this is the wrong place.

These issues appears randomly on 3 different computers with Windows 7 x64 SP1 and IE9 browser. Also some of these is seen in IE10.

    1. Title bar empty/locked, cannot type there. So because of this cannot create new thread.

    2. Quote text box is not viewed fully, only buttom of it, and it cannot be scrolled up/down.

    3. Can´t move the type cursor (mouse) from quote box to empty field. Cursor stays on quote box. Workaround is to save quote as new post, and edit it then.

    4. I can´t make empty lines between text. It shows empty line in edit box, but after publishing there is no space between text lines.

  • This should be three different threads.

    We'll address #1 here.

#2 and #3 should be a separate thread.

#4 we already have another thread out. And we just got a bug added about not having to press a spacebar (just Enter) to get the line to stick. That would also fix #4. And more about it... It works fine to press the spacebar (like you did above) and get the spaces to stick. When you then edit a post, the lines with just spaces get changed where the spaces are eliminated. So you Edit it, change a word, and it looks like you lost your white lines. But you actually just lost the spaces you added to those lines in the HTML code. Thus if just the "Enter" key (line breaks) gave you the final whitespace you want, this wouldn't be an issue.

  • Regarding #1... I've seen this. It's an easy workaround...

    1. Drag your mouse over the word "Title" above the title field.
    2. Press the Tab key.

    Voila.

But it's still a bug. I'll make that request.

    added for test

Hi Yannara, Ed, just to make sure we are on the same page here before a bug gets logged.

#1 issue is not that the title bar can't be typed in, the problem is you can't click into the title bar and type? And like Ed suggested, you have to select something on the page and click "tab" into the title bar? I seen this problem a couple times before, it gets fixed if you go into compatibility view. It disappeared since then for me so I thought it was fixed.

#2 + #3, I can't repro this bug at all (tried on several forums in IE10, 9, 8 mode), so i'm not exactly sure what's happening. It would help if you can provide us with a screenshot so I could log a bug for this problem.

#4 we currently already have a bug logged for this, but there isn't any ETA for it yet.

While I understand that these bugs are fairly annoying to our IE9 users (there are also several other issues with IE9), but given that that there is a fairly simple workaround to upgrade to IE10, these bugs logged for the devs have fairly low priority on their work list(not counting it may be a product issue with IE9, which is not even the forum's problem). It could be months before they even start looking into these types of issues.

"you can't click into the title bar and type" - that´s more like it :)

But compatibility view is not always available for this forum adress.

I will open another threads about #2 and #3 with screenshots, when the behaviour appears again.

#1 issue is most serious of these.

  • #3 is looking like this, if I click, nothing happends. I only can save it like that, then edit and then I can type.

Sounds like you are losing the <br /> tag at the bottom of the quote.  That is a common issue if you are trying to create an extract of a quote without first appending something that is non-blank.  If you see your non-blank append disappear you know that you have to back up, e.g. press Ctrl-z and try again.

An alternative workaround, which is only available on these forums and not on Answers forums, is to use the HTML button and add your <br />  tag manually.
