  • Question

  • Hi,

I am new to Bing Maps. I plan to develop an application for both Windows 8 /8.1 and Windows Phone 8 platforms. If possible I would like to share the map code as much as possible.

Which SDK / Control should I use? I was on the Bing Maps site, and got confused by the various options. :(

I would like to draw a map based on LAT/LON, and to control the zoom level. Also, I will need to draw a polygon on the map, based on a set of LAT/LON points. Can it be done, and if so how?

    Thanks,

    Eitan

  • At the moment the Win 8 and 8.1 controls do not align but this ill likely change before the win 8.1 control is officially released.

That said you can easy share code between Win 8, 8.1 and WP8 by using conditional compilation symbols. I've used this in the past to create a cross platform app which you can find here: http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/Augmented-Reality-with-bcb17045

For WP8 simply use the built in map control. You can group blocks of code that are different using the compilation symbols.

As for drawing polygons based on a set of coordinates, this is easily done by using the MapPolygon class. Take a look at this documentation: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh846506.aspx
