Network driver not installed in VMWare Workstation 8

    Question

  • Hi,

I've got Windows 8 running in a VM, but I have a bunch of drivers missing, one of which is my NIC driver. Anyone want to point me in the right direction of how I can resolve this?

Its (not) using NAT through VMWare at the moment.

Which type of network card are you using for the Virtual Machine? What
adapter is the network card attached to in the Settings for your virtual
machine? What does Device Manager show?

You have a tendency to feel you are superior to most computers.

  • Since the manufacturers have not created drivers for Windows Developers Preview, I suggest you update to the most current Windows 7 driver.
If that doesn't work, they try to install in compatibility mode.

For the driver/drivers you downloaded use the compatibility troubleshooter to install them to see if that resolves the problem.
    You can do this by:

    ·         Enter the Start screen

    ·         Move your mouse to the bottom left of the screen to expand the Charms section

    ·         Select Search

    ·         Type Compatibility

    ·         Click Settings in the right column

    ·         Click Run programs made for previous versions of Windows

    ·         Then follow the prompts and direct the troubleshooter to the installer for your computer's driver.

    Then
set the network adaper in Virtual Box to Bridged vs. Nat if you want to test out networking with your home network.
This should allow you to be able to reach the Internet.

    Hope this helps.
