Obviously, you have to check the hash after you download the file. The purpose of checking the hash is to verify that your downloaded file is the same as the original.

I'm sure other verifiers are the same, but with HashCalc:

    1. Make sure SHA-1 is selected
    2. Browse for your downloaded file
    3. Click "Calculate".

The calculation will take a few minutes, but eventually you will see the SHA-1 value appear. It must be exactly the same as the one on the Microsoft site. If it is not the same, do not even bother to try to use it -- just download again.

If you repeatedly get a bad download, you should try a different download method (different browser perhaps).

  • Hello,

Have you read this thread? What's the problem with using Microsoft File Checksum Integrity Verifier? I should do what you are trying to achieve in a snap.

If you're having problems using this tool, please don't hesitate to ask here.

If you are sure you are checking the hash correctly, then you have to download again. Only when the SHA-1 hash matches do you have a correct download.
