Dependent Logins..is it possible in SQL Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Guru's,

We'd a issue with two logins [NT logins] from different domains. but when we denied access for one login application stops working. We tried to connect to Server with this login it succeeded but when we tried to access SQL Server got "Login failed" message.

I'm suspecting any application level HARD CODING or AD Level Depency..please suggest me on this.

Can SQL Server have this kind of login depency?

    Thanks in advance!!!

  • In general there's no login dependencies. However, say you add a Windows user as a login, and then add a group (which that user is member of) with DENY, then the user in question cannot login. This is one type of depencency coming from the fact that you have a dependency in the OS. I don't know if this is what happened to you - not enough information.

  •   I would recommend running SQL profiler to try to gather information regarding this failure that can give us more details on the nature of the failure.

  • We've two NT logins from different domains.

When we try to DENY access for one login, users with second login can't access the database..it was giving ACCESS DENIED.

And once we provided grant access..second login started working fine..users can access database server.
