Need to know Compiler or Technical support end date for Microsoft .NET Framwork 4 Client Profile 4.0.30319 version RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are using Microsoft .NET Framwork 4 Client Profile 4.0.30319 version in our project, so requesting you to know whether the C compiler related or technical support is still giving for this version. If possible please provide any link for the support end date or any similar related information for the same.

And We are using Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise OS, so we are looking to continue Microsoft .NET Framwork 4 Client Profile 4.0.30319 version to run on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise OS atleast for 5-6 years. So your reply is important to us also appreciated.

So Kindly feel free & revert me ASAP.

  • Support for .NET v4, 4.5 and 4.5.1 has been ended on 2016-01-12.

Btw, since all 4.X version are in-place upgrades, as long as you have Windows Update enabled to install latest updates, I'd say it should still be safe to run sites targeting v4 and let the runtime fallback to load code for 4.0. Just note that in case something went wrong, there will no longer be official support.

Note that Win2008R2SP1 will have support ended on 2020-01-14, so you should start planning upgrade if any regulation require your organization to use a supported operating system.

  • Hi RavinderPadigela,

    Thank you for posting here.

Starting with the .NET Framework 4.5, the Client Profile has been discontinued and only the full redistributable package is available. Optimizations provided by the .NET Framework 4.5, such as smaller download size and faster deployment, have eliminated the need for a separate deployment package.

For more details, please refer to the MSDN article.

In the download system requirement, it supports Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 until now. There is no statement to declare that the Microsoft .net Framework 4 Client Profile 4.0 will stop support. Please do not worry about that and use it. When there is new version, Microsoft will provide related alternative version.

    Best Regards,

    Wendy

  • There's something incorrect. The Client Profile is just a subset of the full profile. The end-of-support date is the same as the corresponding full profile version. Any applications targeting client profile will automatically be treated as compiling targets full version when loading the later runtime version.

In other words, the support.NET v4.0 Client Profile had already been expired on January 2016.
