SharePoint does not recognize SharePoint Designer RRS feed

  • Question

  • While working on a SharePoint site if I click on any link/connection to SharePoint Designer I get a message asking me to download SP Designer 2010 (see Below).  I have Designer installed and it does work, but I can't "link" it FROM SharePoint TO SharePoint Designer.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening and more importantly how to "fix" it?

  • My environment (win7, office 2010 64bit and SPD 64bit, IE9) suffered same problem. After server was patched to SP1 and Office 2010 to SP1 (including SPD), I can now open a site in SPD from SP.

  • You probably have the 64 bit version un-patched installed on win7. I believe this was fixed in SP1. If you do not have 64 bit office on the same machine, you can use the 32 bit SPD or just install SP1. It is this "launch from SP" feature that does not work in the 64 bit.

  • Great.  Thanks.

    Yes I have Office 64bit.

Ok perhaps a dumb question - where do I get SP1?

  • See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2510690 (SPD will update with Office if you updated Office 2010 to SP1 and it can update on its own.)
I am not sure if the SharePoint Server SP1, the SPD SP1 or both fix the issue. Read about SharePoint SP1:

  • Thanks.  I spoke with the Server side folks and they had already installed the SP1 on the SharePoint server - but it does not seem to have fixed my problem.  I have forwarded this post to them to look at.  I'll also check out what I can do on the desk-topside of things.
