Format WDTF Output Using TraceFmt Not Successful RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have enabled generation of WDTF traces using the steps provided in the article, "Enabling and Viewing WDTF Traces", found at "https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/wdtf/viewing-wdtf-traces"; I.e.,

    (1) logman.exe create trace "autosession\WDTF" -p {6210f559-c7f7-4d2f-b674-4bc9315cecc7} 0xffffffff 0xff -o c:\WDTF_Traces\TraceFile.etl
    (2) reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WMI\Autologger\WDTF /v LogFileMode /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
    (3) reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WMI\Autologger\WDTF /v FileMax /t REG_DWORD /d 16 /f
    (4) reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WMI\Autologger\WDTF /v MaxFileSize /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Now, I try to format the output file, TraceFile.etl.001, using the recipe specified in the same article, i.e.,

    Tracefmt.exe –r http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols c:\WDTF_Traces\TraceFile.etl.001 -o OutputTxtFile.txt

The text output file is filled with entries similar to the following:

"Unknown( 10): GUID=a5895342-98b5-3214-43fd-6311564a7427 (No Format Information found)."

Other "Unknown Codes" and GUID's are seen, but every single line ends with "No Format Information found".

How do I properly format these trace files to view the WDTF output?

    Thank you,

    Dave
