Getting started with Windows CE 6.0 and Visual Basic 2005 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have selected Windows CE 6.0 for a simple User Interface application. I need the application to present controls to the user, then send serial commands to a hardware controller depending on what the user clicks.

I have the Windows CE 6.0 R3 Platform Builder which comes with Visual Studio 2005.  I have a rough Windows application in VB.NET but now I need to port that to the target in WinCE.

Is there a simple WinCE 6.0 tutorial for a Hello World application, showing how to build a simple OS for my target hardware (I have a BSP), add my application and have it run at start up?

If not, can anyone point me to the right steps to get started?

  • Are you sure that you need to build an OS?  Your vendor may be able to assist you with putting the application on a flash disk.

  • Bruce, that's a great idea and could be a valid and very welcome shortcut to get the system operational. I'll discuss this with the vendor. Many thanks, Mark.
