Measures Appear in PivotTable, but not in PowerView - Why? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've seen many posts about this oddity, but I haven't found an explanation.

    Why do some measures created in PowerPivot work in Pivot Tables, but NOT in Power View (they don't appear in the field list).

    Simple test.  Using Office 2016 (though Office 2013 is the same).

    (After reading a cool post by Chris Webb...)

    Created a simple table (list of fruit and names).  Add to PowerPivot.  Create 2 measures:

    Equal-ConcatenateX:=CONCATENATEX(Values(MyTable[Fruit]),MyTable[Fruit],",")

    Equal-Now():=Now()

    Note the results.  PivotTables sees/uses them.  Power View doesn't.  Why? What's the logic behind the difference?

  • Hi Eric,

    This is because Power View can currently only see measures that return a numeric value. This is a known issue that I'm hoping will be fixed by the time Office 2016 hits generally availability.
