changing max memory sql 2016 RRS feed

    I am using sql 2016, I have:

    Can I push the MAX memory from 110,000MB to 118,000MB


    How come this feature is still in MB?

  • Of course it depends on your particular server configuration, installed components and workload characteristics, but I probably wouldn't increase max_server_memory above current value of 110,000 MB, given that you're physical RAM allocation is 120 GB. That setting leaves 12GB of memory available for OS and other processes.

    In order to reduce the risk of OS having insufficient memory, I recommend you run Tibor Karaszi's excellent script to calculate optimum max_server_memory and follow it's recommendation:
