I try to GetAvailableMediaStreamProperties and SetMediaStreamPropertiesAsync for other type of stream. it successed. but I can't take photo(return Fatal Error) and record my video.

  • It turns out that I was actually able to see the crash on a Surface using the greyscale option.  However, the linked post (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winappswithnativecode/thread/40f8dd52-140d-4228-ba9f-6bedff22c756) clearly says that low-powered devices will have problems with greyscale due to the algorithm used, and it makes other suggestions besides lowering the resolution.  You will need to look into the pixel shading option suggested by James.  I am confident that there's nothing else we can do for you on this issue.

  • Hi istring,

I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue. There might be some time delay.

    Thanks.

  • Hi istring,

The Media extensions sample works on ARM.  I downloaded the sample built the ARM version and installed it on a Surface.  I then recorded a video with the camera app and used it for the last two scenarios.  Note that that if you want to do the first scenario you have to change the scenario 1 code to look for the same file extensions that the other scenarios do.

Check that you are building with ARM.

If that does not fix the issue, then you are doing something different.  You have not posted any steps to repro or code so I cannot help you further unless you do that.

  • Hi   jpsanders ,

    Thanks for your response.

Have you ever try this  Media capture using capture device sample    (C#,C++)  (and sure it can work well for back and front camera.)

    I can't enable the gray effect to MediaStreamType.Photo .

This issue not only  happened to me.

    Like this: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winappswithnativecode/thread/40f8dd52-140d-4228-ba9f-6bedff22c756

And set low resolution can  not help me to solve this problem.

    Thanks a lot.

  • Hi istring,

Your post said MediaExtension sample not MediaCapture.  There are entirely different.  I will try this sample later today.

Also you imply that one camera works and one doesn't?  Can please give step by step your experience and expected results?  Thanks!

  • Hi   jpsanders ,

I am so sorry for my description before . I have mix up samples. In my surface, the both front and back can not work well.

    1. You can run the Media capture using capture device sample .

    2. then,select scenario 2)Enumerate cameras and add a video effect .

    3.Click StartDevice , StartPreview .

    4.Click Grayscale Effect.

In my surface ,the grayscale had render several frams , and then it breakdown.

  • It's the holiday season for much of the world.  I'll check this out on Wednesday and see what I can figure out.  You might also consider opening a support case if it's really important to you and you require immediate assistance.  You get two support cases with each developer account that you open.

  • I don't have my Surface available but I did run this successfully on an NVidia ARM tablet.  I'll try with my Surface when I have it back in the office, but my suspicion is that it will work fine.

  • Hi Matt,

Thanks so much for response, I think There might be something wrong whit my surface if it work fines on your surface.By the way, is there  any way to debug my project on surface through the remote debugging(native debug)? Thanks a lot.

  • I tried with my Surface - indeed the sample works as expected.  I think you should try a factory reset on the Surface before attempting debugging. However, you can debug on the ARM device - check out http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dsvc/archive/2012/10/26/windows-rt-windows-store-app-debugging.aspx.
