Is Expressions Design supposed to replace Photoshop? All I want to do is select part of an image and cut and paste that sans any surrounding background into a new image. Easy in Photoshop, impossible in Expressions Design?Friday, August 29, 2008 6:05 PM

Darrell,
No to 'replace', yes to 'possible.'

I don't think it could for many reasons. One may be that ED has a vector based way of doing things that dovetail into XAML whereas PS is many things mostly pixel based but with a few vector based things added in.As in another post (quite recent about selections) PS uses a pixel based eraser whereas ED depends upon creating a vector object and using erase blend mode. It's great having such a wide choice but a shame that ED is limited to Windows (in my opinion). Extending ED to a Mac OS would be neat (IMO)Friday, August 29, 2008 9:22 PM

Also, Design isn't exactly a photo editor, either.
Listen to both sides of the story...Saturday, September 6, 2008 12:13 AM -
Design isn't supposed to replace Photoshop but it does have a way of doing what you want to do. In addition to the link Fred gave you, Will posted a tutorial on his blog site a few days ago.

I am really enjoying the way Ex. Design can be used for this.
If there is enough interest I'll create some Webcasts and Silverlight Stream them for everyone.
Case in point...Personal use.
Last week my lovely wife, a Scrapbooker, asked me to remove the shadow from a close-up of a Soccer ball.
I currently use Ex. Design, Corel Photo X2 and Snagit 9 for this sort of image editing.
So I decided to test the same thing in each tool, all that she needed was the shadow removed.
By far the best result was from Ex. Design, the others did a good job but the way they did the rounded edges failed.
Kudos to the Expression team.

Hi Mark,
I'd be interested in some Webcasts! That would be great!
