How to diagnose issues with INF-Files? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am trying to create a unidrv minidriver (just consisting of the GPD and the INF-File), and found a great sample created by terrificskyfox which does exactly what I was looking for.  However, when I try to install a new printer using this inf-file, Windows 7 (64-bit) complains that in the specified folder no compatible driver was found for x86_64 ...

I ran the inf-file through InfGate (as recommended by chkinf), and got the following result:

    > Errors:
    > Line 42: (E22.1.1025) No value for hw-id.
    > Warnings:
    > Line 54: (DW22.23.8512) DATASECTION reference 'UNIDRV_DATA' should have a corresponding INCLUDE=NTPrint.inf &
    > NEEDS=UNIDRV_DATA entry.

However, as my printer is a pure serial printer, it doesn't have a hw-id. Could that be the problem?
Do I manually have to specify that the inf-file is also compatible with 64-bit windows?

Is there any way to get more information why windows is not happy with the inf-file provided?

    Thanks, Gerhard
