Unable to delete or view contents of VHDX RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm doing POC and wondering if I should be able to view the contents of the VHDX files?  Currently I get this error when trying to open one:

Says it's in use but there is no current VM session so not sure where that is getting hung up.

When I try and delete is get a similar message.  I've tried to rename the directory but get the same results.

  • Hello Rynomyyte,

To view the contents of an FSLogix VHDX file, you will need to use FSLogix Disk Management Utility:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/fslogix/disk-management-utility-reference

If you use this command: frxcontext.exe --install

A right-click context menu option will be installed, allowing the vDisk to be mounted and the contents viewed as below:

  • I would like to install the frxcontext utility on the clustered fileserver housing our FSLogix profiles. I assume I have to install the full FSlogix apps package?  Will this cause any issues on a 2016 server?

  • Yes, you would need to install the full FSLogix Apps package.

I have installed the utility onto a Windows Server 2016 file server (not clustered) and have not experienced any issues.
