How to configure Host Computer and Target Computer for Debug Windows RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello!

Im Debug Engineer at Intel, and actually I working with WinDBG. In my team, we have one idea about to use Visual Studio 2010/2012 for debug own drivers, but I’m trying to connect from my host computer to my target computer, I search the option menu called ”Driver”, but I don’t have this option.

    I have Windows 7, VS2012, VS2010 and Windows Driver Kit 8 and 7 installed

    What can I do?

  • Correct. Windbg lets you see the code, but not edit. It will automagically open the source when you hit a breakpoint - if it runs on same machine where you build the driver. Otherwise, set the symbols (.pdb) and source paths (via .sympath and .srcpath commands or via the GUI).

  • Hi Victor,

Do you instal Visual Studio 2012 before install Windows 8 WDK?
I install Visual Studio 2012 first, and then install Windows 8 WDK.
'Driver' menu appears in Visual Studio 2012 after Windows 8 WDK is installed.

  • Ok Pavel, thanks for your answer, so... you say that on VS2010 i can't debug code like in WinDBG? only VS2012, that's correct?
