Expression Blend Required RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is Expression Blend required to develop a Silverlight app? We are trying to make the argument to either purchase or not purchase Expression Blend for our UI designer.

    Thanks!

  • You don't need to have Blend to develop in Silverlight. You can also use Visual Studio. Blend is very helpful in regards to designing the application and the controls.  Designing the UI, tweaking the control templates, and animating controls is easier to do in Blend than VS.

You should have your UI designer try out the software to see what they think. There is a 60 day trial.

  • It's definitely not required but helps (a lot). Besides the Expression Trial you can use Kaxaml or Aurora to help create the XAML. Most of the XAML you can create by hand, but the storyboards and other animation you will definitely need Blend 4.

  • Hi,

Is Expression Blend required to develop a Silverlight app?

Expression Blend is a tool for designers (and developers) to create graphics, design animations, and produce experiences.

You can develop a silverlight just only use Visual studio.

But my suggestion is for UI design, use the Blend, and for coding, use the Visual studio.
