Office Web Apps 2010 on Server 2012 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Team,

I understand that SharePoint 2010 SP2 slipstream media can be used to install SP2010 on Windows Server 2012 R2. Can we do the installation of Office Web Apps 2010 on top of Windows Server 2012 R2 and SP2010 SP2?

Is this configuration supported by Microsoft or not? Can anyone please share articles for either cases whichever is correct?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks, Sarath

  • Hi Sarath,

Web Apps Server 2010 will fail if it installed in Windows Server 2012 R2 version.

To deploy Office Web Apps on-premises in your organization requires SharePoint 2010 installed. Office Web apps Server should be in the same version as SharePoint Server version. The minimum supported version of SharePoint Server 2010 on Windows Server 2012 is SP2. Hence the Office Web Apps version should also be SP2. Try to install Slipstream version of Office Web Apps Server 2010 with SP2.

Besides, do not install Office Web Apps on a computer that is configured as a domain controller.

  • Thanks Grace!

To restate, SP2010 SP2 + Office Web Apps 2010 SP2 is supported on Windows Server 2012, but not in Windows Server 2012 R2. Is that correct ?

    Regards, Sarath

  • Thanks Grace! However, I've not yet tested Office Web Apps 2010 SP2 over Windows Server 2012 R2. Will try in coming days.
