Self Identifying a Azure Virtual Machine RRS feed

  • Question

  • When a VM running on a Server 2008 R2 Hypervisor has supported integration components installed I can query the registry inside the VM (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Virtual Machine\guest\parameters) for the version of Hypervisor (R2, R2 SP1) as well as the name of the Hyper-v host I am currently running on.

Does a VM deployed in Azure as a Virtual Machine have a similar set of registry keys written somewhere? I checked both on both a stock Image from the gallery, and a custom image I uploaded and neither had any data written to the above registry key.

  • Hi Nermol,

Windows Azure uses customized hypervisor that is made specifically for cloud.

    Thanks,

  • Understood. What I am trying to do is identify from within the running VM that it is deployed on Azure, and not on Hyper-V.
