Error when trying to create a new "Excel 2013 and 2016 VSTO Add-in" project using VS 2015 & Office 2016 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to create a new "Excel 2013 and 2016 VSTO Add-in" project using VS 2015 & Office 2016 on Windows 10 (64-bit), but whenever I do, I get the following cryptic error message:

"object reference not set to an instance of an object"

I also get the same error message when trying to create a new "Excel 2013 and 2016 VSTO Template" or "Excel 2013 and 2016 VSTO Workbook".

Do I need to remove Office 2016 and get Office 2013 to create VSTO projects in VS 2015?

    Thanks,
    John

  • Hi JohnDal,

Based on your description, this error happens when you create a new Excel add-in, am I right? What is the version of your VSTO Runtime? Since your OS is 64-bit, you need to install 64-bit VSTO Runtime. If you have installed 64-bit VSTO Runtime, what is your VS2015 version, community, professional or Enterprise? I suggest you try to repair or reinstall your VS2015.

    Best Regards,

    Edward
