Uploading data to mobile device from ASP.NET application RRS feed

  • Hi

    I have an ASP.NET web application connected to a SQL Server 2008 Express database on shared server.

    I now need to write a Windows Mobile 5/6 application to access the same database and a local SQL Mobile database as the app must be able to run whilst not connected to internet. Ideally I would like to be able to send data directly from browser app to the mobile device.

    Any help/advice on the best way to achieve this scenario would be greatly appreciated.

  • First there is no way (no practical way at least) an ASP.NET application can upload data to a mobile device. An ASP.NET application runs on the Server, and it only communicates with the device indirectly - via a Browser. So it cannot read from or write to the device directly.

    Since your device application should be able to work online or offline (i.e. it is occasionally connected), you can make use of a framework: Microsoft Synchronization Services for ADO.NET. The following pages introduce the sync framework:
