Outlook 2016 keeps prompting verification after every reboot

    Question

  • We enabled MFA for a few Office 365 admin users. There're a few users report that Outlook 2016 keeps prompting for verification after every reboot. In addition it prompts for verification everytime when they open Teams desktop client. Could you help? Thanks.

  • Has the device(s) been added as a Trusted Device in the Azure Multi-Factor Authentication setup ?
Ref: Suspend MFA on a Remembered Device

If the user successfully completes the Multi-Factor Authentication, a cookie is set on their device and they won’t be required to perform Multi-Factor Authentication on that device and browser again until the cookie expires. Once the cookie has expired, the user must perform Multi-Factor Authentication again.

Users can restore Multi-Factor Authentication on their remembered devices by going to the additional security verification settings within their user profile. A shortcut to go there directly is at https://aka.ms/mfasetup where you can click the Additional security verification tile.

  • Thanks Neelesh. The Suspend MFA on a Remembered Device feature was enabled. For my understanding, rich clients like Outlook and Teams desktop use tokens. http://windowsitpro.com/office-365/multi-factor-authentication-for-office-365. The refresh token allow user to login without verification up to 90 days.
