Transcoding to G711 A-Law RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am hoping someone could give me some pointers.

I am new to Media Foundation development and need to implement a media conversion application that is able to handle most audio formats used in a telephony environment. So far I have been trying a number of sample applications from the SDK and managed to get most formats transcoded with the exception of G711 A-LAW.

Enumerating the MFT list I see that the G711 Wrapper MFT is registered and that it handles media subtype MULAW however I can not see A-LAW and indeed running the transcoding on a A-LAW encoded media gives me an error.

    My questions are:

    1) Do I have to implement a custom decoder to handle this format type

    2) Would you recommend setting the output type to uncompressed PCM as this format can be handled by any encoder

    3) How to implement the new A-LAW input media type for the client to process

    4) Is there any example of an Audio decoder implementation

    Thanks in advance
