moving from sql server 2005 to sql server 2008 r2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have the following two questions:

    1. Will I have problems with a C#.net 2008 application connecting to sql server 2008 r2 standard edition database? If so, what are my concerns? How would I get around the problem?

    2. For the connection string information, can Istill use the same format of server name/instance looking like test/instrance1?

Answers

  • No you will not have any issues connecting a C#.net 2008 application connecting to sql server 2008 r2 standard edition database.

Yes you can keep the same connection string if the server instance and database name remain the same otherwise you will need to change the Data Source and Initial Catalog properties of the connection string to match the new server name and database name.

That said, you will need to test your application to ensure it still works the same under SQL 2008 R2
