Problem installing Expression Web RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am having problems installing Expression Web.  I run the CD, start the installation process, enter the product key (which is always accepted), the installation starts, and then, after a couple of minutes it shuts down, saying "Microsoft Expression Web encountered an error during setup."

When I close that box, it used to say something about a patch not being right, but I ran the repair tool on Outlook 2003 and that error message doesn't seem to come up any more.  But I still can't install Expression Web.

It is the upgrade version and I do not have FrontPage installed on this computer because it is new, but I do have the original FrontPage 2000 CD.  If I recall correctly, when I first installed this program on my old computer,  it asked me to put the Frontpage CD in the drive to verify that I actually had the previous program and would qualify the the upgrade version of expression Web, but I'm not sure if I recall that correctly or not.

Any suggestions?  Your help is very much appreciated!

    Thanks,

  • Its seems that some registry entries are corrupt. You may want to try running the clean-up util:

If at all possible avoid transfer programs because you tend to get a few programs that develop some registry corruption. In some cases its needed for products you have misplaced media, but just something to avoid otherwise.

You're correct; it should ask you for the FP disk.  I don't think the error you're getting is associated with whether you have FrontPage or not, it's another issue.

Can you quote the exact error message?

  • At present, the only error message I get is, "Microsoft Expression Web encountered an error during setup."  This appears in a dialogue box with the Expression Web logo and a "close" button.  That's it!

  • UPDATE -- Here is more information.

    1.  The program was installed and worked properly on my old desktop, an HP, which I no longer use.
    2.  I replaced the HP with a Dell Vostro and used the "PC Mover" program sold by Dell to transfer files and settings to the new computer.
    3.  Many of the programs transferred over with no problem, just requiring entry of a serial number.  Others such as Office 2003 and Photoshop CS3 required a "repair" reinstall and reactivation (no problem, I am the original and only user of these programs).
    4.  When (this weekend) I tried to use Expresson Web, I could not.  So I tried to reinstall the program, thinking that would work.  As you can see, it did not, and when attempting a reinstall, I get the error message noted in my first post.
    5.  As a matter of curiousity, today I tried to remove the program and cannot remove it using Control Panel.  I click on "Remove" and nothing happens.
    6.  I have a removal program called "Revo Uninstaller."  When I try to remove Expression Web using Revo Uninstaller, I get the following error message from Windows Installer:  "The patch package could not be opened.  Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."
    7.  My guess is that I will have to remove the remnants of the existing program on my system before I can reinstall Expression Web.  How can I do that given this error message?

    Any suggestions or help???

  •  Steve:

    1.  OS = XP Pro, latest service pack

    2.  Nothing happens when I click "Change" (same as when I click "Remove").

    Thanks,
