  • Can I use Sharepoint 2010 Installed on Windows Server 2008 (64 bit) with Active Directory Installed on another server having Windows Server 2003 (32bit) ?

  • HI Shaikh,You can use AD configured in win 2003 for share point 2010.

    With SharePoint Server 2010 you can create connections to the following directory services:

    • Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) 2003 SP2 and AD DS 2008

    • Sun Java System Directory Server version 5.2

    • Novell eDirectory version 8.7.3

    • IBM Tivoli version 5.2

  • The above post pertains to user profile sync and the directories SharePoint can connect to to perform it, which is entirely independent of installation of SharePoint into a certain forest functional level.  But to answer, yes 2010 does work in a 2003 functional level domain.

    Thanks for posting your issue, 

    SharePoint 2010 cannot be installed on windows server 2003. And it will support only 64-bit (x64) versions of Windows Server 2008 SP2 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • Dear Yadav,

    I am going to install SP2010 in windows 2008 R2 (64 bit)... but for authentication mechanism i want to utilize our existing server if ActiveDirectory which is already running on Windows Server 2003...

    Can I connect SP2010 to that AD server ? Please let me know.
