Playready DRM supported format

    Question

  • What are the supported formats that can be used with DRM. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to play encrypted mp4 video using Microsoft Playready Client SDK? I can not find any information about MS playready supported formats. I have only found a sample of how to use this SDK with some other formats.

  • Hello,

Yes, the Client SDK can play Microsoft PlayReady encrypted MP4 content. However, you must aquire a proper license from the content owner before you can play the content.

  • Thanks for the help James

We are aware of the PlayReady sample but it doesn't show how to play a MP4 file.

We were able to acquire the licence, but we have trouble playing the file afterwards.

    We get an error:

    MF_MEDIA_ENGINE_ERR_SRC_NOT_SUPPORTED : HRESULT - 0xC00D36C4"

If you could provide a link to some mp4 examples we would be very grateful.

Hopefully everything we will do here with W8.1 could be latetly used in our WP8.1 app.

  • Hello I have a couple of questions:

Do you own the content packaging and the license server?

Is the file local or on the network?

    Thanks,

    James

  • Hello James

Yes we do own a license server.

We encrypt the movies ourselves, if that's what you mean by content packaging.
(playready encrypted mp4 format is already in use in our iOS and Android version of the APP)

We have only tried streaming, as we couldn't find any examples or information whether we should stream or try a progressive download or any other approach.

  • [-EDIT] I have been informed that using the PR PK to port to the Windows Store app Platform may not be allowed by the current PR PK licensing. Please contact your PlayReady licensing representative for additional information and confirmation. [EDIT-]

    Hello,

If you have already licensed the PlayReady Porting Kit (PR PK) and have a working implementation on Android and iOS, I would recommend that you [EDITED - See comments above].

Unfortunately we don't have any mp4 specific samples available for PlayReady.

    I hope this helps,
