My favorite is Pro ASP.NET 2.0 in C# 2005 from Apress.  One of the best technical books I've ever used!

Hello artil, and welcome to the ASP.NET Forums.

If you have no web development experience, then I recommend that you start with ASP.NET 2.0 for Dummies.  (I started with this book.)

If you have web development experience (such as PHP), then you might skip the For Dummies book and instead buy ASP.NET 2.0 Unleashed.  (This was my second book.)

Since I myself have worked through both of these books--well, the first versions of each--I can honestly say that they will set you on the right path to learning ASP.NET.

I agree with "SomeNewKid". Both books are great. It really depends on what you want out of asp.net. Asp.net 2.0 unleashed will give you tons of code sample and examples....by far my favorite.

www.bookpool.com has a great WROX box set for ASP.NET 2.0.  It comes with few asp.net books from WROX. Here is the link http://www.bookpool.com/sm/0470048409 to the box set.

If you have the time, I also recommend ASP.NET for Dummies.

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/beginner/web/tier2/vwd/

The link contains a free ten-chapter demo of the book.

But if you don't have the time, you may want to settle with the Starter Kit from the Wrox Series. It's got nothing exceptional, but it can get the job done in no time.

I dread the Wrox series books (If I am correct, they are the big red books)  They are great for technical lookups, advanced stuff, etc but I have never really found them to be helpful when learning somehing new, but they are great when advancing to the next level!
