Local Printing Application from Web RRS feed

  • Question

  • Well, I hope I've chosen an appropriate forum for this, anyway here goes ...

I have a label printing application that I want to use in conjunction with an ASP.NET web application. I want the user to check off items (checkboxes in a datagrid) on a web form, and then click a "print labels' button. When they click that button, the web app sends a DataSet to a client-side app (ClickOnce, maybe?) that *directly* prints to a printer, with PrintDialog, PrintDocument, etc. etc. This is imperative, I must control the printing. I cannot, repeat, CANNOT print using IE, too awkward, this is a production app. The user clicks the button and labels squirt out of the printer.

THE QUESTION: How can I send content from an ASPX page that will tell a client-side app to print something?

Is ClickOnce the way to go with this?

Thanks much for any help (and maybe a nudge to the correct forum :-) )

  • You can embed necessary information in the launch URl of the Clickonce app.
Note there is a length limit on URL so if it is going too long then just pass a record id in the link and let the clickonce app to get the rest of data using web service.
