Open Files Can be renamed/moved. How can I stop this? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I have noticed recently that on my windows server 2008 server, I can rename / move dlls that are currently in use by an executable (VS2010 .Net APP), and it will happily rename them. Process Explorer shows that the executable that has the dll, now has the file with the new name open. (Althoug it is the same file).

I assume this is by design, but can we avoid this? I would prefer it to say that you can't do it, rather than allow it. Is it the way the DLL was opened in Visual Studio, or is it allowed always in windows.

    Thanks,

    David
