Masking with Expression Blend RRS feed

  • Question

  •  Hi I'm new to Expression Studio and specially to animation in blend. I just wanted to check if I can create a simple masking effect using vector shapes in blend (Like in Adobe Flash)

  • I think the rough equivalent to a mask is "clipping" in silverlight.  See this 100*100 rectangle clipped in the shape of an ellipse.

    <Rectangle Fill="Red" Height="100" Width="100">
        <Rectangle.Clip>
            <EllipseGeometry Center="50,50" RadiusX="10" RadiusY="10" />
        </Rectangle.Clip>
    </Rectangle>

    There are lots of posts out there about animating the clip geometries which might be able to give you the effect you are looking for...

  •  Hi

    Many thanks for the reply actually I'm a designer and definitely not good with coding :)

    I actually wanted a way to do it manually through blend like we can do things in flash.

    any further help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

  •  I've found a cool utility that works pretty much like flash and makes life quite easy. I'm currently using its trial version.

    http://www.sothink.com/product/animation-maker-for-silverlight/index.htm

    It too doesn't have masking options but I'm still interested in konowing for sure that we can't do masking effects in blend without editing code behind.

    So I'm still waiting for a kind response. :)

  • Hi,

    Yes you can do this, and it's really easy in Blend.

    Here's a great tutorial from Matt Shapiro:

    Enjoy! And please mark as answer.
