SQL Server 2014 Data Tools

Question
-
I've just installed Developer Edition of SQL Server 2014, a move from 2012 Edition. I can see that Data Tools are missing from initial installation. I've looked over the internet, found out that it is available as a separate package and now I'm feeling more confused about which version to use!!
There are two Data Tools files are available for SQL Server 2014 on Microsoft web site, each for Visual Studio 2012/2013. My SQL Server 2014 has only Visual Studio 2010 Shell, Visual Studio 2010 for Office Runtime (x64) and for Applications x64 Runtime 3.0!!!
I understood that Data Tools can be installed without full copy of Visual Studio, but in my situation what version should I use??? To me, it is confusing because I've SQL 2014 and according to MS website, Data Tools for SQL 2014 should be for either Visual Studio 2012 or 2013. while I've Visual Studio 2010 shell available on my computer and I don't want to install Visual Studio just to install Data Tools. I also though about installing Data Tools for Visual Studio 2010 to make it compatible with what is available on my computer, but it doesn't make sense to use latest version of SQL Server with older Data Tools.
I've lost lot of time looking for clear answer, but could not find one. Help please!!!

Hi KhurramKZ,
SSDT for Visual Studio 2012 will install some Visual Studio components. Please ensure that your system meets the Visual Studio 2012 System Requirement.
And you might need to install latest update for Visual Studio 2012 to eliminate the above warning.
Thanks,
Lydia Zhang

Hi KhurramKZ,
As you are using SQL Server 2014, if you need to deploy SSIS, SSRS, SSAS projects, please download SSDT-BI for SQL Server 2014 from this link and install it. However, ff you want to develop SQL Server 2014 database projects, please download SSDT for SQL Server 2014 from this link and install it.
After installing above SSDT/ SSDT-BI for SQL Server 2014, it will install Visual Studio 2013 integrated shell. Please ensure that you open Visual Studio 2013 as described in this similar thread and develop relevant projects.
In addition, SSDT for Visual Studio 2012 and SSDT-BI for Visual Studio 2012 can also be used with SQL Server 2014. For more details, please review this article.
Thanks,
Lydia Zhang
