SQL Server IaaS - optimal price/best practice on disk/backup check me RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm scoping/pricing out a project that needs a SQL Server 2012 IaaS instance with a 300 GB database size. I came up with 300 GB + 1 TB (for backup) page blob storage. I can't use block blob storage for the disk or backup. Is it better to use SQL Server's ability to backup to page blob directly, without going through a mounted drive tied to a page blob? If I have a 1300 GB drive allocated, do I pay for all that space even if I haven't used it for backup + database? If yes, I wonder if using direct page blob backup saves that charge.

    Thanks.
