Communication timeout using Modem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am developing an application that uses a modem connected to serial port, communicates with a distant equipment. The modem is "IG6000 Industrial SmartModem"; this works both as leased line and dial-up modem. When works as a leased line modem, it exchange data perfectly. But when my software use it as a dial-up modem, it dials the phone no., modem sounds, get connected and then sometimes (but not always) it shows TIMEOUT while receiving data.

I am using VC++2005 (unmanaged) for application development. The part of the code I am using for serial port communication was derived from Microsoft's web site (MTTY sample). I cannot understand how to handle the TIMEOUT problem.

Can anyone tell me what to do in this situation?

    I will appreciate any help.

  • It didn't manage to negotiate a connection in time.  That happens.  All you can do is try again, hoping for better luck and less noise on the line.  Not sure what you infrastructure looks like but nowadays these kind of connections are made through the Internet with a VPN tunnel.
