Remote desktop into Windows 8 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm sure I'm missing something easy, but if I remote into my Windows 8 machine (I got one of those Samsung tablets), I can't do any thing...I can't get the charms menu and if I open a Metro application I can get back to the desktop.

I'm using a mouse and keyboard to remote in, are there mouse or keyboard shortcuts I can use with remote desktop to navigate?

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • I am using WindOS7x64(ultimate) to host remote desktop connection to WindOS8x64(dev-prev). Here are few things: In desktop version, the charms menu appear at the bottom left of the screen. Just move your mouse there and it pops upwards (like a traditional start menu).

To switch between the metro apps, move your mouse to the left of the screen but off by 2 pixels w.r.t the entire screen (if you are using fullscreen). If you are having remote desktop in a window, then move your mouse to the left of that window off by 2 px (within that window). Hope this helps.

  • The key shortcuts does not work?

Win+C to open charms, Win+D for desktop etc. (http://www.mywindowsclub.com/resources/5077-Windows-Developer-Preview-Keyboard-shortcuts.aspx)

  • No...All the Win combination keys go to the local machine.

  • paully21, which OS you are using as a host? Also, are you using virtual environment or Remote desktop connection? Because all those shortcuts work for me well and executed on the remote machine with the aforementioned configuration.

On the system that you're remoting from run mstsc.exe, click Options, go
to the Local Resources tab, and then change the settings for Apply Windows
    key combinations
    .

  • I guess you are running the Remote Desktop in a window, not fullscreen. In that case, the Windows key shortcuts are by default kept in the host machine. Go to the Remote Desktop Connection options, click tab Local Resources, locate group Keyboard and choose On the remote computer.
