Do all users in [BuiltIn] Administrators need licensing

Question
-
I have a large domain group that has several users that are all local admins on our application tier server. Since they are local admins on that machine they are added to the [BuiltIn] Administrators. These users never use TFS. Are they required to have a TFS CAL or MSDN subscription? If so how can I remove them without removing the admin privileges from the group.Wednesday, April 20, 2016 4:55 PM

hi Shane
if you're using TFS 2013 or TFS 2015 than you can control the license using Access Levels and setting default level to StakeHolder which don't require a TFS CAL license. all other users which do require access to TFS need a higher level

hi Shane
this is not a very good idea.
why do they need admin access to the TFS App Tier ?
if they're only administrating the server than they don't need a TFS CAL.

They don't need access. They are part of a company wide AD group that has admin on most machines and servers for support purposes. We are now looking to limit admin access.Wednesday, April 20, 2016 7:06 PM
